To The Editor:
We live in New York, and have a cottage in Del Haven. I remember the mosquitoes we had last year, and I have read many articles here in Cape May County about the warnings that the mosquitoes are going to be a major problem this year. I’ve read about a shortage of help in the department, which handles the problem.
My comment, which I haven’t seen in any of the articles, is why not put up bat houses on trees, and import bats if necessary? One bat can eat up to 30,000 mosquitoes in one evening. Rabid bats are very rare in this area.
A bat house is a very small, tight-quarters box put in a tree. I don’t believe bats disturb birds, and the rest of our population. I would like to suggest that someone who has connections for research, make it a much happier tourist season.
