Why Do Blunderers Always Walk Away Unblamed?

By Murphy

To the Editor:
Two people have left the N.Y/N.J. Port Authority because of the Christie scandal. Both of these people were paid over $200,000 annually although they had no technical expertise. Why do I bring this up? I recall the years when I interfaced with the Port Authority and the agency was highly technical. The bridges and tunnels were overseen by engineering personnel and always functioned properly. Things have since lapsed and the Port authority has become a political football. The N.J. side has been stuffed with Christie cronies.
The names Samson, Baron and Waldstein go way back with the governor. It seems they were all involved with the Fort Lee shutdown. Some may very well be involved with the Hoboken short change of federal funds.
Isn’t it about time we looked into and behind the scenes and into the background of things and people that caused these happenings? Let’s cite some examples. In 2011, the new governor of New Jersey had vetoed the N.Y./N.J. Tunnel Project that was primarily financed by the federal government. Today we have massive traffic problems with no solution in sight. This was spun as a cost saving maneuver by the N.J. governor; actually it was a blunder. A second example was when the U.S. terror czar had warned the government that the Sept. 11 attack was imminent. He was ignored; what happened? Why do blunderers seem to always walk away unblamed? Why, when and where did the epidemic of the mentally ill begin? Today the streets and ER rooms are overflowing with the problem. Answer: In the 1970’s Ronald Reagan had budgeted the closing of California psychiatric facilities and thus the epidemic…
Apparently, little foresight is used when the so-called responsible parties begin these serious encounters. With regard to the Port Authority, the bridge and tunnel rates exceed $10 but the agency is poorly administered. As to the progressively mentally ill problem, today the psychiatric bed availability is nil. As for Sept. 11, we now spend over $40 billion on a Homeland Security Agency.
Isn’t it happening again and again?
