To the Editor:
With this being award season, it is time to award the annual Bert Lahr award for lack of courage. That award will go to U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-2nd) for refusing to even consider having a town hall style meeting.
LoBiondo, according to a post on Facebook, says that he is meeting with 100 people in his office in one day. If he met with each person, it would average 4.8 minutes per individual; hardly any time to discuss the Affordable Care Act, the fact that Russia played a role in the 2016 election, the link between President Donald Trump and the Russian Federation, or President Trump’s taxes.
LoBiondo has been known to go on the radio to answer questions from the people who he is supposed to represent, however, when he goes on a show such as Hurley in the Morning who is as right leaning as they come, he is only getting softball type questions and if a listener is able to ask a question, it has been screened and it will be of a similar nature to what Harry Hurley would ask.
LoBiondo has also stated on his Facebook page that he does not want to give anybody a “YouTube” moment. Now, granted, it is a better excuse than what other members of the House of Representatives have used to avoid talking to the people they represent (such as public safety), however, an excuse is just that, an excuse to not do your job.
LoBiondo is not trustworthy as he signed the “Contract with America” and said that he would only serve six terms (he is now in his twelfth, double what he promised) and that when an opponent challenges him to a debate he declines.
I want someone who is going to represent the people of New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District; someone with the guts to stand up in front of the people he was elected to represent and answer them. Someone who is not afraid of a town hall style meeting and if LoBiondo doesn’t want to, we would be happy to vote for someone to replace him.
