To the Editor:
America is known as the “melting pot,” and for good reason. Unless you are 100 percent American Indian, it stands to reason, that at least one or more of your relatives have immigrated here, many for the same reasons; religious and racial persecution, to escape their “war-torn” countries, as orphans, because their families were killed, or just to find a better life for themselves and their families.
During WWII, so many people immigrated here, and we gladly accepted them. Over the years, so many have left their homes, their ways of life, and their families to find something better.
Sometimes, we take our freedoms for granted. Who are we to tell someone they can’t find happiness, that they have to live in constant fear, that they may at any time be bombed by another nation, without trying to get away? Most people in this world are grateful to just have a place to live, a job to support their families, food, clothing, and a way to get where they need to. They are the innocent; those who get stuck in the bitter battles of war. Not everyone is a “terrorist.”
We have been very fortunate that our country has not suffered the way other countries have; the saturation bombing, the invasion of our cities and towns by other countries, being “rounded up” like cattle, and placed in camps, or worse, wondering what happened to the rest of our family.
I hope it never happens here. I wonder if our relatives were never permitted to enter this country, where would most of us be. If only the leaders of every nation would just be content with the nation they have, instead of trying to take over whatever they can, and allow people to actually live their lives.
So many are tired of the hate, the waste of human life, the anger and fear. That is why they escape, to try to find something better.
If it were you, how would you feel? Yes, you can find an argument in anything, but not everyone wants to cause a problem, they just want some of what we have, a chance to live in freedom.
Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
