To The Editor:
When bad things happen, good things always follow them. In February we moved to Stone Harbor from the Florida Keys in order to be closer to health care facilities and some of our family. As luck would have it, in August my husband, Ben, found out he had cancer. As the weeks passed the acceptance came, and treatments were started and our “new way of life” had begun.
Then, a few weeks into his treatments, Ben was told by the social worker at Cape Regional that the Love of Linda Cancer Fund, of Cape May County had a donation for him to help with the cost involved in receiving his treatments. My husband is a giving man who has donated much of his life and time to helping others financially and voluntarily as a fireman, re-building homes after hurricanes and supporting and helping to build a new church in the Florida Keys. He felt he just did not qualify, but the social worker convinced him that he did.
The kindnesses received by us in the next months from the Love of Linda Cancer Fund gave a great boost to our morale. We wish to publicly express our gratitude to the people in our county who care so very much about their fellow human beings that they continue to give their support year after year, to keep the “Love of Linda” giving and caring. We find this to be a truly marvelous, good thing. We also wish to acknowledge all the care and concern shown to by Cape Regional Medical Center, the wonderful doctors, technicians, personnel, volunteers and of course, our family, friends and the community.
Our anxiety now is about the future, but we tell ourselves that with all the goodness around us, we will surely be able to handle whatever comes along. It is good to be home, when home is Cape May County.
