To The Editor:
Only a wake-up until Thanksgiving and the start of the Christmas season. Let’s see, what has changed since this time last year? Hmmm. Do we have anything to be thankful for on the 25th day of this month? The worst unemployment that I can remember in my lifetime, drastic and incomprehensible government spending, food, gas, clothing prices going through the roof; not to mention unbelievable numbers of folks losing their homes, taxes on everything and political chaos and unrest in countries around the world. I won’t go on, though, I could.
So what, then, do we have to thank God for on this Thanksgiving? Seems like not much. But I believe there is much to be grateful for this year.
Our families, our health, our faith and our strong wills to name but a few. Additionally, on Nov. 2, we relied on Divine Providence, and God answered a lot of prayers. With His help, and the hard work and dedication of many ordinary folks who are at their wits end with the direction we’ve been going, got off their comfy couches, went to the polls and showed their resolve. Well, you guys…Message Received!
It was deliberate, it was loud and it was powerful. Now, we have to hold their feet to the fire and keep a watchful eye on it all. We cannot be complacent and think that our job is done. This is the beginning. We must be vigilant, and keep informed, take notes, watch and read and learn. The cost of freedom is not cheap. We have to pay not in dollars but in diligence. If the people with the power do not do what we pay them to do, it’s up to us “the people” to throw them out.
And so, on this Thanksgiving I’d like to say, “Thank You, God.” We asked for your help, we relied on your providence and you answered.
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
