To the Editor:
This letter is a complaint about the situation with the George Redding Bridge. At least four times in the last year, the bridge was closed, usually because of flooding on the Wildwood side.
The problem is when this happens, Wildwood let’s drivers continue from Rio Grande by the Parkway entrances to the bottom of the bridge, a distance of a half mile or so. Workers and barriers at the beginning of the bridge then make traffic turn around and go back to Rio Grande.
Why can’t they let drivers know this ahead of time by setting up warning signs in Rio Grande before they start this journey? How can officials treat residents and visitors this way?
Supposed plans to eliminate this problem are probably years away.
ED. NOTE: Wildwood police typically post bridge closure notices via digital media, including cell phone notifications. For information, contact Wildwood Police Department at 609-522-0222, or go to nixle.com/wildwood-police-department.
