To the Editor:
This is a letter of recognition and praise to go out to all of the dedicated folks including the doctors and nurses who have chosen t dedicate their time, expertise and above all caring to Volunteers in Medicine in Court House.
Although this is a personal story and I cannot give accolades to every volunteer, I would like to give special thanks to those who have followed me in my healthcare journey over the years. The three individuals I would like to acknowledge are Dr. Kenneth Cramer, Dr. Elizabeth Crowley, director, and Barbara Harvey, R.N. These unsung heroes deserve honorable mention. They have been there for many of us who were not fortunate enough to have healthcare coverage through no fault of their own; they never waiver with respect to the exceptional quality of healthcare given.
These dedicated folks who chose to give freely of their time and unstoppable caring have helped me through a personal health crisis. The early diagnosis of Dr. Cramer, whose intuitive follow-up guided me in the right direction and series of tests. The exceptional care and knowledge of Barbara Harvey who guided me through finding the right referrals and ultimately successfully got me the through a needed surgery at a well-respected hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Elizabeth Crowley spent more time with me, talking me through my fears and explaining everything I needed to fully comprehend my situation.
I felt now was the time to give praise where praise was due. Especially in the uncertain times of healthcare where the medically needy have not always have had access to quality care and no where to turn, these caring professionals have been a light in the storm. Words cannot attempt to convey my gratitude to these individuals who have followed my personal health issues over the years when I had nowhere else to turn because of having no health insurance.
When you are faced with a diagnosis that you have ultimately no control over, have no resources, no options nor support system, life as you know it changes what you used to take for granted. There is no price to place on your most precious asset, your health, and I would challenge anyone with a silver, gold, or platinum plan to match that of Volunteers in Medicine’s professional superior care. They treat their patients with both the dignity and respect they deserve. Bravo to those with that beautiful God-given heart and spirit to do what they do.
