To the Editor:
In 1990, I had the honor of being appointed as a commissioner on the Garden State Parkway by Gov. Jim Florio. As only the second Cape May County resident to ever serve as commissioner, I was able to accomplish many improvements on the roadway.
Several improvements were made to the roadway and intersections between milepost 8-11, a commuter parking lot at Cape Regional Medical Center, and I was able to stop a new proposed tollbooth at milepost 7 with the help and legal support of Bruce Gorman and Ray Batten.
While I am proud of these many improvements, I was not able to eliminate the three traffic signals at Crest Haven Road, Stone Harbor Boulevard, and Shell Bay Avenue. However, once Jeff Van Drew was elected as our state legislator, things changed quickly.
Sen. Van Drew was able to secure over $160 million in funding to eliminate the traffic signals and build three state-of-the-art overpasses which improved the safety at these three dangerous intersections. Accomplishing these improvements is just one of the many things Van Drew has done during his tenure as both a freeholder and legislator.
It is rare in politics to have a person with such high integrity who works every day for his constituents. It is with great pride that I support Van Drew for the U.S. House of Representatives. Please join me in supporting this hard-working individual.
