To The Editor:
I hear a lot of negative referrals about the senior citizens in our community. Being one myself I hope to let the young ones in on something special that happened recently.
Over 40 of us “Seniors” traveled over 2,700 miles via bus (a seven-day trip — four of which were mostly inside the bus) to arrive for a three-day stay in Branson, Mo. The entire trip was an amazing adventure for all of us. Never once was there anything but laughter and camaraderie among the group. We even had a surprise birthday party aboard our bus, along with drinks of choice, movies, trivia games, comedy shows and treats of all kinds.
Our hosts couldn’t do enough and the people couldn’t be more receptive, considerate, and wonderful in every way. If this experience had a price tag, this trip would be priceless. My partner, Tony Sbarra, (the Birthday Boy) couldn’t believe we had planned his special day with a surprise aboard a tour bus. He had no inkling of it, which wasn’t an easy feat for yours truly.
My friend AnneMarie McCullough took on the challenge of doing the “undercover” decorating, smuggling on board the cupcakes made by her hubby Bob, as well as the other goodies she had prepared. BeBe and Chink Flanagan, as always, went out of their way to make our experience more than memorable.
A special “Thank You” to everyone in our group. Without their enthusiasm our “surprise” couldn’t have been so successful. Truly, it is great to be a “Senior.” If you are lucky, you will find that out for yourselves and enjoy your “Senior” years as much as we do.
