Treasonous

To the Editor: 
If you think there’s something wrong with America, take a look at the political makeup. All three branches of the federal government are controlled by Republicans. Most governorships and state legislatures are Republican and even local councils are Republican. 
What does that tell you? Is it possibly un-American, or even unchristian like? Instead of do unto others, we have to do to others for the sake of the party. It’s party over country or win at any cost.
The new federal budget reflects exactly that. Thus the budget will increase defense spending at the expense of other departments of government. From dismantling the state department to eliminating meals on wheels and children’s programs. Progressive pleas from citizens are damned at the whim of insecurity.
We did this once before in the 1980s and that began the start of huge deficit spending. Ronald Reagan left office leaving a $9 trillion debt. He began with less than $1 trillion. The current president may leave office with a $29 trillion debt. This administration brags about saving $334 billion over a 10-year period. Do you know what percent that is of $19 trillion? Doesn’t even register. An almost negative number. Don’t forget we have walls to build, millions of people to transport, health care to fix, and most of all, tax breaks for whom? If the Republican plan is approved, there will be a $157 billion tax relief for those earning over $1 million annually. Factor that into your humanitarian makeup. As the Republican senator from Nebraska said recently, ‘Civilization is warping.’
To cite an old metaphor, America is going to the dogs. Total lack of leadership. No wonder Vladimir Putin wanted the Republicans to win and lessen America’s standing in the world. Russia is making progress while we fiddle with tweets and nonsense. What we now see cannot and will not last. We’re better than that.
