To the Editor:
We have all been affected by the coronavirus and it has currently, completely changed our way of life. Although we may not be symptomatic, we definitely have all been infected.
As human beings, we have taken backward steps in our evolution of a humane society. We have already lost social skills through texting and computers. We’ve become self-indulgent trying to keep up with friends and live beyond our means. Rather than understanding and compassion, we turn casual conversation into confrontational arguments.
However, this virus is temporary and we will get through this but how will we emerge?
I am ashamed of our reactions and inability to comprehend that we are all one. Is it possible to learn something from all of this or will we just become more indifferent, less social and yes, less kind? I’m hoping it’s just the opposite. I am hoping we rise stronger and we realize that we need each other.
I hope we learned that family time isn’t to be fit into our schedule. That catching up on the phone with old friends is something we should do more often. Watching siblings playing together, well that just makes every mom’s heart happy.
I could go on and on and I know we have all had positive and negative experiences with Covid-19. This is our chance to reset and chance to take stock in our world. There is a reason for everything. I hope we all find it.
Avalon – This economy is tough for everyone. Think I might have to sell my beach house! A good problem, but still forced.
