To the Editor,
J. R. Carman’s recent letter to the Herald tells us that ‘May 21, 2011 must be seriously considered by each and every person,’ as being “Judgment Day” and Christ’s return/coming.
This is utter nonsense. It is a product of Family Radio of Oakland, California’s resident false prophet Harold Camping. He is the deep think, date setter, who once authored an end of the world book titled 1994. Curiously, 1994 came and went and nothing happened. Penn State did go undefeated in college football though.
For the serious prophecy student, I implore anyone to realize that Jesus timed His return with first century events surrounding the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. This was the end of the Old Testament, Mosaic-age/world. Please note Matthew 10:23, 16:27-28; -Luke 21:20,22,32 to see precisely that all was fulfilled by A. D. 70. The word for “coming” in Greek is parousia meaning “presence.”
If Carman is in Philly on May 21, I suggest he take in a major league baseball game. On May 22, Harold Camping will once again have egg on his face. Maybe his annoying, droning voice, will eventually stop confusing and misleading people.
