The Police Were Busy Rescuing and Evacuating Residents

By Ferentz

To the Editor:
In response to the recent Letter to the Editor “Where Were the Police during the Storm?” I believed this elicited a response.
The writer asked where were the police. The West Wildwood Police Department, even though depleted after the last four years of neglect from the previous administration, was busy rescuing residents and evacuating them during the height of Superstorm Sandy. These officers, whom he continually bashes in his letter, risked everything to aid the residents of this borough. They put their personal lives aside and slept here for three days on the hard floor to accomplish this mission. I am extremely proud of each and every member of this police department for their personal sacrifice to ensure the safety of this borough and its fine residents.
No one could have asked for more from these fine officers. After Sandy, these officers were quickly on the streets arresting and summonsing all those that were breaking the law.
I want to commend each and every employee of the Borough of West Wildwood. Everyone here worked extremely hard and put in long hours to help and aid as many residents as possible during an extremely difficult time.
I also want to thank all the residents of the Borough of West Wildwood for coming together and assisting their neighbors during this time of need.
The letter stated that looters were observed breaking glass from storm doors. He continually asks, “Where were the police?” I ask why didn’t he call the police in reference to these alleged illegal acts? Our records indicate that not once did he call as was his civic duty to do to advise us of these problems.
Where were the police? The West Wildwood Police Department was, and is, doing their job protecting and serving the fine citizens of the Borough of West Wildwood.
