The Changeling

By Susan T. Grivas

The changes you go through woman
will never alter your inward ways.
Your love stretches out to touch me
and in silence you speak.
Because the laws of your degree keeps you at bay.
My evidence of love is put boldly on display.
I try with a faltering success to slow down
my heartbeat and still my shaky body.
When two sets of eyes twinkle at contact dim
out personifications and let us both be at ease.
The changes you go through woman I also endure.
Sleepless nights and loving thoughts run
rampant in my mind.
Like a chameleon you are graceful, beautiful,
and unapproachable too.
Is there anything I can grab a hold of to
remind me of what I will never have?
The changes we go through are nothing short
of love – but definitely pain…
Grivas writes from North Cape May.
