To The Editor,
I am writing to announce my support for the next committeeman in Middle Township, Bill Sturm. I ask that my fellow township residents, Democrat, Republican, Independent and Unaffiliated alike, give Sturm their consideration when in the voting booth on Nov. 8.
First, Sturm will give the southern part of Middle Township the representation that the Republicans have complained has been missing for the last 10 or so years. That was until Dan Lockwood was elected in 2009. The Republican complaint prior to that had always been that all three committee people lived in Court House. They have no comment when asked about how they would feel if Court House resident Tim Donohue were to be elected.
Second, interviewed shortly after turning in his nominating petition, Steve Russell was asked on the radio why he didn’t want to run as a Republican. His response started with “I feel it is in my best interest to run as an Independent” Yes, in his best interest, not the best interest of the residents of Middle Township. That’s the same Steve Russell I have always known.
Third, Sturm will represent all of the residents of Middle Township with a working man’s point of view. That is something that we have not seen in quite a while. Local government was more efficiently run back when we had working people, not business owners looking out for their best interests, listening to the concerns of the residents, no matter what.
Sturm may not be the best public speaker that I have ever met, but he has a message. He has seen what has been happening in Middle, be it with too many no-bid contracts being awarded to the same contractor or with the rapid development that we have all witnessed here. Russell says he supports more development as a way to ease our tax burden, yet study after study has pointed out that just the opposite is true, and has been for many years. The costs of added infrastructure and services needed negates any extra tax money collected and leaves us with sprawl development and higher taxes, something we all dread. Donohue supports more business development, much like the Russell approach.
Fresh new ideas. It is time for independent thinking. Russell would side with DeLanzo, Donohue with Lockwood. Middle needs fresh, new independent thinking. We have the chance to do that by electing Bill Sturm.
The real Democrats have a candidate. Donohue attacks Russell as a Democrat, something he has never been. Donohue has no ideas of his own and acts like the current policies being utilized to save taxpayer dollars are his. Russell is spoon-fed his information by DeLanzo and Doughty. Interestingly enough, Russell says he will change everything that Doughty and DeLanzo have been doing. He has been attacking everything that they have been doing. If Lockwood has had any ideas, it has taken two years for him to make them public, as he is now doing. With all of this being said, neither Donohue nor Russell have any real plans of their own. What we have is two Republicans, one supported by a few rogue Democrats on the outs and one supported by the Republican party running against a Democrat with a fresh new independent perspective.
The party that says Middle has been controlled by the Democrats for over 50 years overlookS their party holding onto power at the county level for over a century, and believe that should be an issue.
The choice is Bill Sturm. It’s that easy.
