To the Editor:
Stone Harbor’s Beach Patrol (SHBP) captain noted that the town will not be able to man all beaches. This is not a problem unique to SHBP, as almost all seasonal patrols have the same problem.
Al Neuschafer, the legendary Trenton High School swim coach, managed a small patrol in North Jersey, and solved the problem by providing a bonus based on a per week allocation to guards who finished the season. Town fathers will regard that as an extra expense.
On the other hand, why not insist that the local colleges (Atlantic Cape and Stockton) and local schools delay their class openings thereby allowing students to work longer despite the “inconvenience” to tenured faculty and administrators who love those long mid-year holidays.
Given the financial support provided to those institutions, it behooves them to address the unique needs of the area.
But, boards of education will not want anyone to interfere with their operations; those strenuous two meetings per month where they get to raise local taxes unobstructed.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
