To The Editor:
Although I am disinclined to pay attention to Tony DeAngelis of Villas, as he seems obsessed with false facts, I will respond to his vitriolic letter concerning me in last week’s Herald.
DeAngelis has never once tried to contact me to discuss his concerns either by phone or in person. Rather, he would much prefer to act as a public hate monger, not altogether unlike the regular radicals of any persuasion.
Concerning the Ponderlodge, the community-at-large favors the idea of having Richard Stockton College of New Jersey within the former Beer World. It is unnecessary to enumerate the overwhelming benefits for all should this miracle occur, which I will continue to strive towards.
Regarding the Beach Movie Theatre, he is once again, misinformed. The building has been deemed historic within Cape May’s National Historic Landmark District. Further, due to state environmental laws in conjunction with a lapsed demolition permit, the Franks have been frustrated getting that permit re-issued. Regarding monies loaned by Trenton’s Department of Community Affairs, these monies are mandated to be loaned for these types of projects by the state, not by the City of Cape May.
Cape May simply acts as a pass-through agent for state funds. Further, any non-profit or other similarly associated organization could equally apply. The due date is 2012, not 2010. If he would like to see my demand letter recently received from the city, I’d be happy to comply. Perhaps then, he would better understand the facts rather than a repeated stream of nasty, misinformed, and misdirected letters.
In regard to the Solarium, DeAngelis, should share his sarcasm with the three other elected officials, all former mayors and councilmen, who do not share his preference for throwing buildings away. The essence of conservatism is just that, to conserve. Perhaps, it is him who is the liberal?
