Saving Our Military in November

By Jimmie Hollis, Millville

To the Editor:
As an American of Dutch, Indian and African ancestry and a political conservative I have many reasons why I think the past seven-plus years have been terrible for the country. One of the main reasons is the weakening of our military and adverse political interference of its basic structure. As a military retiree this concerns me a lot. As a voting block most of the military; Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force, have historically been a huge voting block for Republicans. There are many reasons for that but the main reason was most military leaders were historically patriotic and were devoted to American values, principles and ideals.
Knowing this, the current administration took steps to change that voting base from Republican to Democrat. One step was the assault by the commander-in-chief and his advisors on the values and camaraderie of the military men and women with policies and directives that disrupted basic moral values. This disruption came in the form of forcing the military to openly accept a very controversial, highly divisive and for many an immoral lifestyle. The next step was to quietly replace top military commanders and officers with people who were politically loyal to the commander-in-chief and shared his liberal views. Lastly the budget for equipment and personnel pay was secretly cut and parts eliminated without receiving any publicity. Eventually, however, these attacks on our military got out and the public was shocked and upset. But it was too late to do anything and appealing to Congress proved to be too lengthy and usually ended up in a black hole never to be heard from again.
Fed up, the people elected a Republican Congress with hopes that it would put a halt to the adverse actions and policies of the current administration affecting the military. However, hopes were dashed as the people found that the GOP-led Congress was feckless and only rubber-stamped the actions and policies of the current administration. This, along with damaging domestic policies, brought “we the people” to a boiling point and this year’s presidential election is reflecting their anger and disappointment. Hence the election of a conservative Republican as president in November is vital. Second the Congress has to be purged of members who have supported and approved this president’s policies and actions. All of this will be in play in November.
In conclusion, it is essential that the military be purged of many commanders and top leaders as soon as possible in 2017 and replaced with men and women of integrity, dignity, patriotism and sound moral values. The voices of conservatives, Blue Dog Democrats and Independents are speaking loudly and will not be silenced by riots, demonstrations and violence from the far left. Our military deserves our best and that can’t happen under a Democratic president.
