Russell Gets the Nod from Middle’s Mayor

By Atkinson-DeLanzo

To The Editor:
It is an honor and a privilege to serve Middle Township as a committeewoman and mayor. I am proud of all we have done together. During my tenure in office my goal has always been to serve with one agenda: to always do what is best for Middle Township. That is why I am endorsing Independent candidate Steve Russell to become our next Middle Township Committeeman.
I have personally known Russell for eight years. I have seen firsthand his excellent leadership skills, his knowledge to manage complex budgets, and his ability to work through difficult labor negotiations. He is an honest, open-minded person with the utmost integrity who will be ready Day One to step in and lead this township through very challenging times.
I am impressed that Russell, unlike his opponent, is not going around making promises that require one-time budget gimmicks that are not sustainable, nor is he working on an agenda to bolster the power of a political party. He is truly an independent who wants to use his life experiences to make certain this township moves forward in a positive future direction. Having worked though the budgeting process 10 times, I look forward to having his knowledge and experience helping Township Committee meet the challenges of maintaining a sustainable budget while balancing the need and desire for lower property taxes.
Tim Donohue continually tries to portray Russell as an extension of myself or Nate Doughty, as if that is a bad thing. That leads me to believe that Donohue must think things we have done, such as reducing the workforce by more than 20 percent, saving the township close to $1,000,000 in health care costs over the past two years, building and expanding the bike path, acquiring over $8,000,000 in grants, expanding recreational opportunities and facilities and reducing trash collection costs by more than $500,000, are also bad. I know Russell is an independent thinker who will fairly represent all the people of Middle Township. I also believe he will not try to tear down the good that has been done or change just for the demands of party bosses.
I am proud of the good we have been able to do, and I stand firm on my commitment to only do what is best for Middle Township. Steve Russell is what’s best for Middle Township, and I ask that you give him your vote on Nov. 8.
