Response to Previous Column: ‘War and Peace in Judaism’

By Powick

To the Editor:
Can what is happening in Gaza be called a war? Israel has all the planes, tanks and army while the other side is locked up in a prison. A war in which Israel is supported both morally and militarily by the most powerful nation on Earth and the other side has to smuggle everything in through tunnels.
The author of the column makes the statement “the Israel Defense Force deploys hi-tech checks to verify the target is clear of civilians.” The newspapers tell us that the United Nations has repeatedly given Israel the coordinates of locations where civilians could gather for safety. This did not prevent Israeli tanks from shelling these locations, killing many civilians. There was an incident where an Israeli ship shelled and killed children on a beach.
Hamas is described in the articles as a terrorist organization calling for the death and displacement of the Jewish citizens of Israel. Should Americans be occupied and colonized against international law by a foreign force would they be called terrorists for wanting the walls around their prison torn down?
