To the Editor:
If the Mayan calendar is correct, and the world ends Dec. 21st, at least we’re spared any more Eagles football games.
But to comment on Jack Fichter’s frustration with Bible prognosticators, can we briefly state what is taught about the end of the “world” i.e. properly translated “age” in Matthew 24:3?
Jesus tied the “last day” events with the destruction of the temple/fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 as the “doomsday events.” See Luke 21:20, 22, 32. This was the dire collapse of the Moses system and all of its religious elements. Bible prophecy ends there, and the last 65 years in Middle East history has no bearing.
A good site for the preterits position is www.eschatology.org.
