Did you know? After one leaves a detox center, there is a 75 percent chance that a relapse may occur.
Locally, there are two recovery centers. One is state-funded in North Jersey, and the other runs on love and dedication. The latter is Hope All Day Recovery Center.
The center was created by Chris and Kimberly Macomber, alongside Sherry Soltis (Chris’ right hand in all of this). The center was created to bring people together in recovery, and outside of recovery, so that today’s youth have a place to turn for a sense of belonging and acceptance.
Chris Macomber said, “You find senior centers all over the county, and there are Boy Scouts and YMCA’s, but why aren’t there more recovery centers?”
At the center’s Jan. 30 awards banquet, this writer was welcomed with open arms by Kimberly Macomber.
With each award handed out, the pride could be felt, knowing such amazing “Recovery Warriors.”
Many recipients were met for the first time, and yet, I never once felt out of place.
I felt so grateful to be a part of something rewarding. I left with a newfound, deeper respect for those in recovery. Why shouldn’t people doing great things be rewarded for their accomplishments?
Why do people only become notarized when they overdose? What good is that doing for the world? When a person overdoses or relapses, they become a statistic, so that awareness is raised.
Hope All Day Recovery Center does much more than that.
Charlene Maycott has Chris Macomber and Sherry Soltis to thank, otherwise her daughter, Monica, might not be alive. Monica was given 24 hours to live, and by the grace of God, she is still alive.
Wanting to make sure her daughter’s story gets told, Maycott has partnered with Michael DeLeon, of Steered Straight.
Together they will go to schools, sharing Monica’s story, etching the memory into children’s brains, that drugs are nothing but trouble.
Monica Maycott is a Recovery Warrior, and Hope All Day Recovery Center has been around, reminding them they are never alone, each and every step of the way.
Let’s make sure Hope All Day Recovery Center stays open, and let’s try working on building more recovery centers all over the state and nation. Here is how to get involved: Visit Hope All Day Recovery Center’s Facebook page and website for more information, and check the calendar of events at www.hopeallday.org.
