To The Editor:
The writer of an Aug. 11 letter opined that our leaders should “use the Constitution and our laws for governing…” Americans want leaders not saviors and Barack Obama’s version of America is not what Americans want – “a vision that limits everyone’s independence, freedom creativity…”
Then she proceeded to state Glen Beck is a danger. She agrees his information is no threat and lauds his research and facts. But it’s his style and opinions that rattle her.
While defending Constitutional rights to freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc. somehow Beck should not be permitted to enjoy that freedom or at least people should not listen to him, lest they will be brainwashed.
What we need is more, not fewer programs like those that Beck does. We need real facts – we can surely separate the opinions. There were actually discussions by left-leaning Congressional leaders to remove Fox news from the airwaves completely by virtue of some convoluted “equality of broadcast information” concept misinterpreted in some legislation.
There really is danger. If a partisan politicians who gain power could interpret who and how freedom of speech applies then this country is in big trouble. The first measures totalitarians take is to control the information sources to the people and thus the message.
Madam, if you don’t like what Beck has to say, then there is a button on your TV set – if you push it, he’s gone. In the meanwhile, the rest of us can choose whatever resource for information without any interference from anyone.
