Political Correctness Posturing Is Immoral

By McNeill

To The Editor:
While the mainstream media compares Arizona’s immigration legislation to the Gestapo of Nazi Germany in articles and cartoons, and obviously have taken a subjective, one-sided approach to this serious issue, truth and context have become the victims. First and foremost, this is not about race or ethnic origin. Hispanic legal residents are a crucial and treasured part of this nation, just as any other ethnic group that comprises America. However, to ignore the glaring problem of an unsecured border where millions come here illegally, and border states like Arizona are under siege with drug cartel killings, kidnappings, attacks on residents and police, in favor of political correctness-posturing is not only wrong but immoral.
Arizona has an estimated 400,000 illegals at a cost to taxpayers of over $1 billion annually. The legislation recently passed was excerpted from existing federal law. In fact the federal law allows for stopping upon suspicion with no probable cause. Though the Feds have failed to enforce it and seemingly try to prevent frustrated and overwhelmed states from doing so. Are we a sovereign nation anymore? Do we have a right to expect our borders to be secure, citizens to be protected? No other sovereign nation allows illegals to stay, take jobs, or use their government social programs. Why are we different?
Who does President Obama and his sycophants represent anyway? They applaud Mexico’s President Calderone as he berates and admonishes Arizona’s citizens for seeking a needed remedy. Ironically, violation of Mexico’s immigration laws is a felony punishable by up to two years prison time for the first offense. Second offense up to 10 years. Mexico claims the sovereign right to deport any foreigner for any violation of its laws or lacking a means of self-support. Nothing like a little context to bring a different perspective to an issue?
