To The Editor:
This past March I went on a bus trip to Resorts casino and was handed a credit card-sized plastic card labeled “Resorts Predestination Club” valued at $5 after verifying the person is 21 years of age. To verify that you are 21, you you must produce a photo identification. The majority of visitors show their driver’s license, which the casino rep then swipes through a card reader connected to a data terminal. This swiping of the driver’s license reads the unintelligible coded bar on the license which includes your history. Knowing this, i produced my valid New Jersey driver’s license to the rep, however I would not allow him to swipe it through the card reader. Rather to verify my 67 years old, I pointed out my picture and my 1943 birth date, clearly visible to him. Consequently the rep denied my $5 casino credit card. As you can understand, the entire identificaton scenario was to get as much information on the individual as possible.
I am quite comfortable with the fact I forsook the $5 credit, and it did not detract from my viewing the show that day. Please protect your identification. These are trying times. If the Pentagon data bank, and credit card data banks can be compromised, I am sure Resorts can also.
