To the Editor:
The proposed dog park site, slated for Washington Avenue in Wildwood Crest, is next to the Department of Public Works, a small playground, and across the street from the elementary school. The idea of mixing dogs and small, running children should raise countless red flags.
Being that my home is across the street from the proposed site, our position is easily understandable. A dog park in a residential neighborhood is obviously not an ideal situation. The park will cause an increase in both pedestrian and automotive traffic and noise throughout the day. The situation will be made only worse when those using the park fail to adhere to the hours posted.
The residents of Newark Avenue, including myself, already suffer the burden of Public Works and garbage/recycling drop-offs. For the town’s commissioners to burden our families with more disturbances is unacceptable.
I have exchanged several emails with Commissioner Cabrera regarding this issue but it seems nearly inevitable. He provided me with a blueprint for the proposed location, which would leave the park less than a few hundred feet from my door.
In closing, the residents of Newark Avenue strongly oppose this location. We understand the needs of the community but believe there are countless better options available not in residential neighborhoods; i.e. Rambler Road, Centennial Park, and the beaches. Hopefully commissioners will rethink this flawed location.
