To the Editor:
In light of the recent political administrative, governmental suspension of its annual physical fitness test, with a history of 23 years, Cape May County F.O.P. Lodge 7 stands firmly behind our members in the Wildwood Police Department. Their efforts to provide the highest level of public service to its citizens and tourists by achieving and maintaining a high level of physical fitness has been compromised by politics.
Wildwood police officers have utilized an annual physical fitness test for 23 years as an indication of their ability to more safely respond to the frequent physical demands of the job.
Cape May County F.O.P. Lodge 7 believes that this high standard employed by the Wildwood P.D, which was updated in 2006 to comply with nationally recognized and accepted standards of fitness, and is consistent with the Cooper Institute standard, clearly demonstrates the high level of dedication to public service that its members strive to achieve.
In an effort to demonstrate their dedication to public safety, and to continue to maintain this high physical standard, many of the members of the Wildwood P.D. have voluntarily, on their own time, completed this physical test Oct. 22.
