To The Editor:
Closed-door caucuses are where unpopular bills are cooked-up, then passed and signed by the president. We’re told in time we will grow to like them, example, Obamacare, and see the good in lots of spending and deficit building (they claim reduction.) They are doing what is best for us, trust us they say. It’s a shame we’re too stupid to grasp the splendor.
We might like to be privy to this “sausage-making” since at first glance the stuff produced seems unwholesome. But transparency isn’t that great. We would only would be allowed to see that which promises political advantage or is unharmful to the party in power, if anything.
But if we pay attention and use our wits, we can discern at least the big picture through a process we might call “Apparentcy.”
To me, at least, it is apparent that:
• The whining about the Bush economic “legacy” replaces improving things, while making them worse, increasing government reach and debt.
• Dems in Congress have “attitude” … we won, are in control, “get over it” as they shove stuff down our throats.
• The Administration and Congress seem to ignore the will of the people, even though this is a representative democratic republic.
• The Administration wants more control via legislation, regulation or political sleight of hand…Chicago style.
• The Obama crowd appear to be very cavalier about the Constitution using it or ignoring it at their convenience.
• Congressional oversight of various functions and vetting by Congress of appointees is dodged by tapping folks called czars. Or, via recess appointments..,a tool used by every president.
• The EPA appears set to regulate the power industry by fiat. This way the process of passing unpopular legislation is avoided, i.e., Cap and Trade.
• It appears that President Obama is naive enough to think he can negotiate with the controlling Iranian mullahs and set withdrawal dates in Iraq and Afghanistan without serious consequence.
• It also appears the regime doesn’t understand or accept the nature of our enemy: relentless and determined to destroy our way of life no matter how long it takes. Our own government, by other means, may beat them to it.
• It’s apparent that wealth redistribution is the wave of the future. The graduated income tax will pale by comparison as various programs and wealth transfers take hold. Not just from the “rich.”
Try as he may, Salesman Obama isn’t closing the sale despite endless speeches and spinning.
We get the floor Nov. 2.
It seems apparent the president is all politics, all the time. Little passes without deep political calculus being applied as he pursues a Progressive agenda, appeases his testy left base and tries not to infuriate too many independents. Is it arrogance? Or, just a need to heap much on us while there’s a window of opportunity…these self-anointed “superior thinkers” and doers we let in last election.
The G.W Bush, Clinton and Reagan regimes were far from perfect. But if one believes in self-reliance, personal responsibility, freedom to choose, limited, less intrusive government, national security and the free enterprise that made this country great, the current regime and Congress are down right scary!
