To The Editor:
I hate when the Cole Brothers’ circus comes to town. I hate it even more when I read things about people loving the animals in the circus the best. The circus producers found this out in their 2009 survey. Why don’t they tell people how the animals are trained for all those wonderful stunts they perform? Tell them how the baby elephant was taken from its mom and put into the circus act. Let them see how the animals are packed into tractor-trailers and hauled from town to town to perform for the people who “love seeing them.”
Circus life is a horrible life for an animal. The circus even added more animals this year so they can suffer and perform for the crowds who love them. If someone really loves animals they will make the effort to know what they are supporting. Open your eyes to animal abuse and neglect. The zebras, tigers, camels, and elephants are wild animals that are not meant to be sitting on blocks or balancing on each other.
Their life spans are significantly shortened due to the stress they are under and the lack of vet care they receive. No animal chooses to be in the circus. People choose for them. If a person wants to live this kind of life that is great. There are circuses that have only human performers. Why can’t the Rio Grande Fire Department bring one of these circuses to our area? In the meantime investigate. Look online to see how circus animals are trained and treated.
