Objects to Authors Point of View

To The Editor:
In the July 31 Herald, Amy Carver of Lambertville writes her opinion “was Zimmerman conditioned to be fearful of black youth?” Her conclusion seems to be that because of all the black youth seen in crime news stories, Zimmerman correctly feared for his life that rainy February night. She says the black community is protesting, assuming that Martin was an innocent without blame and a victim of racial profiling. Assuming? Really!
Her first conclusion that Martin was not profiled is Zimmerman’s fear that Martin was up to no good because of all the black youth in crime stories that he has seen on TV. Ok, so Martin is black; black youth in crime news stories; Martin is about to commit a crime. Profiling?
Her second conclusion comes from an article she read somewhere that claims that Zimmerman allegedly (her word) had an African American grandfather. So he couldn’t be a racist or be profiling Martin because black blood courses through his veins. Ok, so profiling of Martin couldn’t have been a factor because Zimmerman’ s great-great grandfather had Afro-Peruvian roots. Really?
Carvers third conclusion is that according to the New Century Foundation, blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, (and other statistics too vile to mention)?
Ok, so I looked up the above named foundation.
It is a white supremacist organization founded in 1998 and advocates the segregation of the races, views societal problems as racial in nature and upholds white homogeneity as the key to peaceful co-existence. Profiling?
Carver’s opinions come from the news channels, the commentators and organizations she watches and listens to. Apparently, she sees no problem in filling her mind with hate and fear and passing them on to others.
The First Amendment of the Constitution gives both of us the right to share our views.
Tragedy upon tragedy, perpetuated by hate of people who just don’t look like us.
Regardless of whether Martin was targeted, the real problem is not that jurors were willing to accord Zimmerman the presumption of innocence; it is that Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager, was never accorded the same presumption, and that so many defendants who look like him are denied the same right every day.
