To The Editor:
William Murphy assures us Sarah Palin is “not too bright.” A lesson I learned back in the 50s in a New England boarding school where there were a few girls from the deep South. Just because someone speaks in a regional manner, drops their ‘g’s and uses terms like ‘Howdy’ and ‘Betcha’ doesn’t mean they aren’t bright — they were some of the smartest girls in my class.
While I am disappointed Palin didn’t finish out her term as Alaska’s governor, I understand the large family’s decision to take advantage of opportunities to make more money. As governor, Palin’s annual salary was $125,000. She didn’t become governor of America’s biggest state in the first place being “not too bright.”
We are regularly told how smart Obama is, but what proof is there? The only Columbia University paper he wrote that has been released is on the subject of his support of a nuclear freeze, and as editor of the Harvard Law Review he never published anything he’d written himself. He can’t remember the name of the hospital or clinic in Hawaii where he insists he was born, and none has a record of Ann Dunham, Ann Dunham Obama or Stanley Ann Dunham Obama, being admitted over Aug. 4, 1961.
At the recent National Prayer Breakfast he mispronounced ‘corpsman’ twice; on the campaign trail he referred to America’s “57 states.” He jumped into the Henry Gates fracas in Boston making presumptions that were incorrect as it turned out. He is one gaffe after the other as a matter of fact.
