Too often we take for granted that law enforcement will be there in our time of need. Too often the unwavering efforts of men and women in uniform to keep our communities safe goes unnoticed. They are selfless and dedicated individuals who take significant personal risk to protect our families and property.
At public ceremonies across the country, we are honoring those who serve with distinction and remember those who lost their lives to protect our freedoms. During National Police Week (www.policeweek.org), 360 names, including two from New Jersey, Matthew Tarentino and Christopher Vidro, will join more than 21,000 fallen officers on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall in Washington.
We also recognize and salute those injured and unable to return to duty. While their service may have been shortened, their dedication to the law is not diminished.
I have proudly worked with South Jersey’s law enforcement departments, NJFOP and PBA on federal issues throughout my time in Congress and will continue to support issues important to our peace officers. We must never forget their courage and honor their commitment to our communities.
