While I appreciate Mr. Campbell’s attempt to take the “conservative” side of the argument against the Occupy Wall Street protesters, his article, “Some Say Greed, I Say Dividends” is an oversimplification. It is glaringly obvious to most of these protesters that for their entire adult lives a high ranking Goldman Sachs corporate boss has been the Secretary of the Treasury. Federal Elections Commission data released this week shows that Mitt Romney’s top twenty campaign donors are the largest banks in the world. To imply that the $55 trillion in unfunded liabilities our children will inherit is due to the Democrats’ social spending is deceptive. When Jimmy Carter left office the national debt was $300 billion. When Reagan left office it was more than ten times that. We are still paying off WWII, not to mention the Korean, Viet Nam, and all the other wars that Democrats so eagerly support. There is no profit in winning a war quickly, which Wall Street knows well. Hence the endless flow of US taxpayer subsidized financial aid (Lend Lease, Marshall Plan, IMF and World Bank grants and loans as well as huge food grants) to the Soviet Union for six decades. Stalin enlaved over 100 million eastern Europeans and likely would have burned down the Vatican and many other churches in Europe if not for the Irish refueling German submarines. It is politically incorrect to note that the vast majority of the approximately 40 million people who died under Stalin were Christians. It is also politically incorrect to speculate that the majority of Wall Street CEO’s or Federal Reserve bankers are not Christians.
The Democrats are largely responsible for NAFTA and the other “free trade” agreements of the last two decades. Wall Street and the every television in network in New York City promotes the notion that these unfair trade agreements create American jobs, but the 70,000 factories that have closed since NAFTA suggest otherwise. Goldman Sachs is already publicly planning outsourcing police departments, municipal utilities, public works and any other government job for Wall Street profits much as a significant chunk of our military activity has been outsourced to mercenary outfits like Blackwater.
Corporate welfare dwarfs the socialist states of America entitlements that now see 25% of families receiving food stamps. Child labor, political prisoner labor and slave wages like those paid by the multi national corporations in Red China and even North Korea are what make the Wall Street internationalists salivate for greater profits. Mr. Campbell might want to consider funding his golden years with precious metals, as it is becoming more clear every day that hyperinflation will probably make 99% of us debt serfs.
