Middle’s Budget Unfair to Non-MUA Taxpayers

By Julia Hickman, Court House

To the Editor:
As a Middle Township resident using well water and a drain field, I was taken aback to read the March 28 article on the proposed budget increase for the township. Part of the increase was due to the increased fees from the MUA for sewer and water usage.
I for one will be attending the April 16 budget meeting to oppose the bill being passed on to non-MUA customers. As I bore the financial burden of my new well, drain field and water pump, the water and sewer utility customers only should bear the cost of these fees from the MUA.
I realize that some of this expense is for municipal buildings. That would be appropriate to spread among the tax base.
In the article, there was no discernment made. It read that all taxpayers are being held equally financially responsible.
I don’t see how the council can allow this to be enacted or how it can be legal to make any non-MUA taxpayer responsible for a debt they did not incur. Remember, April 16 at 6 p.m.!
