To the Editor:
My neighbors on Florida, Jacksonville, Peters, Hudson and a portion of Bayshore avenues and I are under a mandatory water connection. How ’bout that? Mandatory.
If I choose not to remit the $1,600 “pipes in the street” fee, the Lower Township MUA will put a lien against my residence. If I pay that fee and choose not to connect, I will be charged a minimum usage fee of $65 (approx. every three months) anyway.
One of the main reasons I purchased my home in Villas was because of the clean well water. Well, I guess I can kiss that good-bye. Oh, wait, excuse me. I can use my well for outside irrigation. Isn’t that just ducky of them?
I think this whole mandatory stuff stinks. Put the pipes in the street and give the people the option. Don’t dictate and don’t give deadlines because you put a bad taste in people’s mouths when you do.
If the option to connect were given, more people would have hooked up by now. The MUA has us by the “you know what.” Gas pipes are presently being installed in my street. Is gas going to be mandatory?
Superman, where are you? “Truth, Justice and The American Way” are slipping at the federal and local levels. When slippage starts, it’s hard to stop.
