Lower Mayor Offers His Support for Pitts

By Beck

To the Editor,
One of the main benefits of serving as the Independent mayor of Lower Township is my ability to support the best candidate. Like many of you, I vote for the person, not the party. I don’t care if you are democrat, republican, or independent. If you are the one who has the best chance to help this town, then you have my support. I applaud all the candidates for their interest in serving, and know they are all good people, but we need to elect the best person possible to our council.
Janet Pitts, the Common Sense Independent, has my support for council in Ward 1, Lower Township. Simply put, she is by far the best candidate in the race. I do not make this endorsement lightly, and it comes after a thorough examination of all the candidates, their current record of service to the community, and their ability to make well-informed decisions for the benefit of the township.
There is no one who stands before council on an issue who does their homework more than Pitts. I know this, as I have had to face her at the town meetings. And she has done this so often in the past few years that she actually has become the unofficial representative of this ward. Her election will only serve to make it official. I firmly believe she has a firm grasp of the issues, is prepared to make the hard decisions, but will do so with a sense of compassion for the taxpayers as well as the workforce. This current economic situation, in and out of government, is serious, and requires someone like Pitts who has the courage to stand her ground and do what’s right. Recent history in our town tells us that the same good old-boy network is not going to provide the answers.
Political parties produce too many candidates who are concerned with only being re-elected, and not in making the really tough decisions. I watch this at the federal level, the state level, and unfortunately, at our local level. It is the number one reason why we are in the economic quagmire that now exists. Men and women without courage have pushed to the side difficult choices in government that should have been made a long time ago. And until we citizens make informed leadership selections and break this cycle, these problems will continue to haunt us.
