To the Editor:
We know now that, come November, Congressman Frank LoBiondo, the longest serving freshman in the house of representatives, will face William Hughes, Jr. for the New Jersey 2nd congressional seat in the house. It is time to point out the problems.
LoBiondo has been in the house for 18 years and yet, the only committee he is chairman of is the Subcommittee on Aviation. Now mind you, the Majority leader of the House of Representatives, Congressman Eric Cantor was elected six years later than our representative. To put it in a baseball comparison: if Cantor were the manager of the Phillies, our representative would be managing the Lakewood Blue Claws (the Phillies short season class A minor league).
The Congressman has not done very much for the people of the 2nd congressional district. In fact, LoBiondo just announced that he could not obtain federal funding for the drone test range in South Jersey that would create many jobs and opportunities.
Some of the other “highlights” of the Congressman’s time in the house include: voting over 50 times to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act (however, when asked about his own plan for heath care, LoBiondo remains silent); failure to get 18 of his fellow Republicans to sign a discharge petition that would extend unemployment benefits for the people having a hard time finding a good paying job. You would think that after almost 18 years in office the Congressman could convince some of his junior members to sign and help the middle class.
More things to remember about LoBiondo – he continues to side with the G.O.P. leadership in not making the richest people in this country to pay their fair share of taxes (including businesses). Being the economic terrorists who would rather hurt this country (such as shutting down the government) than do what is fiscally responsible.
William Hughes, Jr. has the lineage to get the job done and we in the 2nd Congressional district have to send a message to the GOP and the Congressman that we are looking for someone who displays leadership in our district rather than being the Charlie McCarthy to Eric Cantor and John Boehner’s Edgar Bergen.
Wildwood Crest – Several of Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks have created quite a bit of controversy over the last few weeks. But surprisingly, his pick to become the next director of the FBI hasn’t experienced as much…
