To The Editor:
Most politicians and economists have called the current economic environment the worst recession since the Great Depression. The current economic environment in Middle Township has given us high unemployment, at least 25 percent reduction in the value of our homes, 542 properties listed for sale, 10 percent of those in my community of Del Haven, increase in the number of rental properties because people can’t sell their homes and less police officers.
Our elected officials looked at this and other economic data and decided to raise our tax rate 31 percent since the 2007/2008 budget, and increased our sewer rate 22 percent, which have a direct effect on lower home values. Unlike surrounding communities, the majority of Middle taxpayers live here year round and rely on the local economy to pay their bills.
We voted in Dan Lockwood, a Republican, who was going to “change” the way things are done in Middle. That did not work. So this election, it’s not about voting your party, it’s about voting for the person who is going to bring about necessary change and lower taxes for Middle Township.
