‘Israelis Have a Right to Defend Themselves.’

By Hollis

To The Editor:
War should always be a last resort. Israel has been very patient taking more than one slap to the face by its enemies and this administration. I am a great admirer of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. So if Israelis decide enough is enough, I support them all the way if they go to war. I do not say that lightly as I have seen the horrors of war firsthand. Contrary to what some think, there is no sanitized and humane way to fight a war. When shells, bombs, bullets, rockets and other ordnance start to fly, regardless of how “smart” the weaponry is civilians, animals, children and old people are often killed on both sides. This is the main reason for the statement “war is hell.”
Ask anyone who has ever been in the heat of battle, they know the smell or war; the acrid odor of cordite and the stench of decaying flesh and human excrement. And the sound is like a roar from the deepest bowels of Hades. So no, I do not advocate war lightly, but there comes a time when it is unavoidable. I think the Israelis have every right to defend themselves and their land from an aggressive enemy intent on murdering their women and children and wiping them off the map.
