Inspects Republican Leadership

By William Murphy, North Cape May

To the Editor:
I commend two letter writers for their input May 11.
Both Mr. McKinney and Mr. Kelly had opined as to the effect of the Republican Party politics, both local and national. The Republicans have given us the likes of Nixon, Reagan, the Bush’s and now Donald J. Trump. The former group at least possessed an element of dignity. Mr. Trump will be the last straw on the trash heap of American politics. A brash New York talker with a dirty mouth and little knowledge of world affairs appeals to the ignorant and uneducated.
Were we to inspect the House of Representatives and its Republican leadership over time, we will find so little done over the years. We’ve had disgraceful resignations from Gingrich, Hastert, Livingston and then Boehner quit. And the right points fingers at Nancy Pelosi? Reagan gave us trickle-down economics, which got us nowhere. The Bush’s brought us wars and Dick Cheney saved Haliburton from bankruptcy.
The Republican Party is all and always about money.
Locally, their patronage machine is quite effective – they take care of their own, regardless of qualifications. They plug in their own people to jobs that require some expertise. I’ve seen tech jobs go to dummies, yet we have new college grads forced to leave town to find work.
Trump’s most recent assimilation is to possibly default on U.S. securities. He did it in Atlantic City at 10 cents on the dollar. Why not here?
Furthermore, have you noticed the difficulty Mr. Trump is having in selecting a vice president? Nobody of quality wants to be associated. Perhaps Sarah Palin may be interested? They tried that once.
What’s left, Chris Christie from New Jersey? Remember, he still has a Bridgegate trial upcoming in September. He will be cross examined and made to look less than credible.
There is always Bob Knight, Joe Arpio and Mike Tyson.
Wake up America, this may be your very last chance.
Perhaps even God is laughing at this latest American blooper.
