Industry Moving Out of America

By James Aumack, Cape May

To the Editor:
Ford Motor Company announced they are moving a division of their company to Mexico. This will result in the loss of 2,800 jobs for American workers. This in turn will probably result in the loss of homes, the possible break-up of families and God knows what else. Carrier Air Conditioning did the same thing several weeks ago. This is done in the name of increased profit. Both of these companies are now profitable but the lure of more profit on the backs of their current workers seems reasonable to those in charge. More profit equals more money for me! Of course Mexico is happy about this.
It is my prayer that the next president uses executive authority to levy an enormous import tax on all products formally made in America by Americans. This would make it very expensive to move out in the name of increased profits. The income from this special import tax should go directly to those Americans who lost their jobs due to this move. This tax and payment should go to those who have dedicated their lives to a particular company and should continue until they find a new job with the same pay and benefits they had before their current job moved outside the U.S. If a company wants to move out of America to increase profits because labor costs are next to nothing in a third world nation, they should. However, it will cost them so much to do so that soon they will realize that it’s much better to stay in America.
We also need term limits on politicians. Nobody should be in office for 20 years without a break in between terms. Two six-year terms is a reasonable time. After that a person should not be able to run for office for at least six years. Let’s get rid of the perpetual office holders. They suck the life out of everyone!
