In Support of Middle Twp. School Board

By Patricia Taylor, Court House

To the Editor:
As you may recall, I filed a petition to run as an Independent Republican for Middle Township Committee, and many voters signed that petition. Among those were Edward Dagney, Stephanie Thomas, Burgess Hamer, Calvin Back, and Dennis Roberts, all members of the school board. The Middle Township Regular Republican Organization (MTRRO), under the leadership of Marcus Karavan, required me to remove any reference to “Republican: on my petition. So I am running under “Honest, Truthful. Leadership. Independent.”
As a board member, I have worked with the aforementioned members and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked without “politics” interfering with many accomplishments that have benefited Middle Township children.
Karavan’s conclusion that the school board is totally political is far from the truth. There are Democrats and Republicans on the board. When I canvassed people to sign my petition, I did not ask, “What political party do you support?”
Remember, you do not run for a position on the school board by listing a political party. It appears Karavan, who has been chairperson of Cape May County Regular Republican Organization for a little over a year is attempting to cast aspersions on the school board.
On Nov. 8, we take advantage of our most cherished right, that of a free vote. Please exercise your right.
