To the Editor:
As a health professional for over 40 years, I have focused on affordable, quality health care for all.
Patients, friends, and neighbors have long worried about how to pay for and keep health insurance. Through the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) we finally have a solution that includes coverage for pre-existing conditions such as cancer, diabetes, congestive heart failure or cerebral palsy.
Obamacare is not perfect, but it is better than what we had, or some not-yet-defined alternative. People don’t have to worry about whether they can afford to stay alive.
The Republican Administration and Congress want to rollback protections for coverage of pre-existing condition, and it’s clear Americans disagree. A recent Kaiser Health Tracking Poll showed that Democrats (86 percent), independents (75 percent) and Republicans (58 percent) all say it is very important to maintain that coverage.
I urge readers to support state Sen. Jeff Van Drew for the 2nd Congressional District. He understands this issue from his own health professional vantage point.
He is a man of integrity and leadership. Our access to health care depends on readers’ votes.
