Importance of Trees

By Jesse Rynkiewicz, Cape May

To the Editor:
The tree cutting needs to stop. In Lower Township, trees have been cut down. A lot of people had seemed to think that trees are not important and don’t matter, but trees are important and do matter.
Trees provide shelter, cool the hot summers, break down the wind speeds, absorb water, absorb toxins, and improve soil levels. They are the largest and oldest living organisms on earth, so they need to have rights not to be executed. What we’re doing is wrong.
Not only are trees being cut down, but the forest is too. Insects, mammals, and birds depend on the native habitats here, and everywhere.
An acre of trees produces enough oxygen for 18 people. Why are we suffocating ourselves?
I’m the opposite. The effort I have been working on is tree planting.
We don’t need to build more houses or buildings, we need to use the existing properties instead. The tourists are not going to come if Cape May County is polluted, filthy, and dirty. They will come if it’s clean, breathable, and majestic.
The solution is that we need to replant trees and bring the forest back. This will create a clean environment for everyone.
