To the Editor:
I recently took time out of my busy schedule to go see Middle Township’s High School play. I think the kids did the best they could. They knew their lines and all of the songs, acted in a proper manner and seemed to enjoy themselves. Good job kids. As for the selection of the play, it left some questions in my mind.
What are we teaching our kids in high school?
The play starts with four gods saving a child by putting her in a tree during a flood. What happened to separation of church and state? I guess that only applies to Christianity?
As the child grows up, she saves the life of a young man and even offers to sacrifice her life for his. Once the young man is returned to his home, she leaves her home to go take care of him. Unfortunately, she becomes his mistress. When he gets better, he drops her for his other girlfriend.
Now the god of revenge suggests to her to take his life, but she just couldn’t do that. She dies and the gods turn her into a tree so that she can take revenge by growing and breaking the foundation of the hotel where the young man lived. So she gets her revenge on a building that had nothing to do with the situation that she, herself, created.
To sum up, here’s what we taught our children with this play: 1) Polytheism – There are many different gods some good, some bad. 2) Promiscuity – It is OK to have sex outside of marriage. 3) Revenge – The gods expect it and even encourage it. 4) Reincarnation – We come back as something else in nature after we die.
It seems to me that if our children are being taught Secular Humanism in our schools, and that’s what’s being taught by this type of display, then we better stand up and be counted. I, for one, was appalled by this play and wonder if the school officials were aware of just what was in this play.
Who was responsible for the selection of this play? Are there any morals left in our society? Is revenge the norm? It’s no wonder our young children consider joining organizations like Isis.
Ronald Regan held his hand on an open Bible to take his oath of office as he was sworn as the president of the U.S. The passage he selected was 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.”
Christians, here’s your wake up call. Pay attention to what’s happening in our school. If we can’t have Christianity in our schools then we shouldn’t have Secular Humanism, that’s a religion too, being the new norm. If there is a separation of church and state then it needs to be instituted for all religions, not just against one.
God bless the United States of America and God forgive us for our sins.
