Herald’s Response to a Spout

By Gary Montgomery, Court House

To the Editor:

In the Herald dated Feb. 16, 2022, there was a Spout Off from Wildwood making an impassioned plea for help for our local homeless. Although it certainly did contain less than perfect punctuation, sentence structure, and capitalization, the message it conveyed was obvious and heartfelt. It ended with the word “pray.”

The Herald chose to respond with the following: “Prayer is appropriate for the homeless and all of our problems. I can also hope for the miracle of capital letters and punctuation.” Wow! How condescending and inappropriate.

Did you, Herald, also make fun of the kid in school who struggled or didn’t have the same opportunities as you? Did you make jokes so others would laugh at that kid’s expense? That’s called bullying.

You should apologize to your reader who puts money in your pocket. Make that readers.

My disgust only grew when I got to the “quotes from the Bible” part of your opinion page. It said, “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works and in your teaching show integrity and dignity,” from Titus 2:7. Is that what you did, Herald?
