To The Editor:
I’m looking for some help in a situation of racism. It appears that there are many residents, police officers, and political figures in Lower Township that are racist.
The problem is the type of music the neighbors hear coming from my house. I have two other neighbors who play their music loud enough for all to hear, but it is just my house that gets harassed. When the police arrive at my house they not only say they are here for the music, they also harass others who are there that are not Caucasian. The questions, and the way they talk to the “others” is very disturbing.
How is this allowed? The answer is that they know people higher than them that are allowing it to happen. This is not my primary home, this is a second home in which I also pay full taxes on.
These neighbors walk and drive by my house and just stare at us. We ignore them. This is very frustrating. How can they get away with this?
I went to court a few months ago for the music, and was only allowed to answer yes or no to the questions the judge asked me. The neighbors were allowed to speak and explain themselves. I was not. What happened to freedom of speech? They acted so innocent in front of the judge and the mayor, who also appeared in court that day against me.
I do understand that there is a noise ordinance, but this is ridiculous. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is. As soon as the neighbors hear it, they call the police.
I do not call the police every time I hear noise from their houses, such as spousal fights. I hear this often, but ignore them. I mind my own business.
I’m hoping someone will read this and help me.
