Green New Deal’s Hypocrisy

By David Cusick, North Cape May

To the Editor:
I am not an expert on climate change but I have worked in the engineering field all my life and am retired from the U.S. military with over 26 years of service. I also taught college labs in a very respectful military academy with many folks in all variety of fields and Ph.Ds. in the engineering world.
Here’s my question to “any” liberal Democrat. I would love to hear the responses. Recently, the stock market started to fall with the “hint” of goods interruption to this country due to the coronavirus.
What’s going to happen when we stop numerous merchant ships, airline flights per day, UPS trucks, Fed-X trucks, tractor-trailers, farm tractors, commercial fishing vessels, school buses, transit buses, locomotives and trains, U.S. Navy ships, Coast Guard boats and cutters, Army and Marine support trucks and transports? This is just the “tip” of the iceberg.
People will be going insane without fuel and products. Just a small disruption will create panic. Does anyone remember the “gas crisis” in the 1970s that wasn’t a gas crisis at all?
I was pumping gas then and watched people fight and destroy each other’s property. Just one container ship burns 60,000 to 100,000 gallons of diesel fuel a day. How does anyone think their foreign cars get to the U.S.? How do they think their food gets to the grocery store? Without farm equipment, we all suffer.
Are they willing to go back to the Amish way of life? I know a little bit about energy and it has to come from somewhere, it just doesn’t magically appear.
Is U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez going to tell 200,000 households they can’t heat their homes with natural gas?
If we could power New York City with solar panels, we would need to cover the State of Rhode Island just to power that city daily.
How ludicrous this all sounds, we’ve been industrialized for roughly 200 years and the earth has been here 4.5 billion, “yes” billion years. It’s had several “ice” ages, millions and millions of natural global fires that burned for years and years and trillions of acres, meteor strikes, solar flares, violent earthquakes, and volcano eruptions that even “created” ice ages.
Does anyone remember in 1989 Quebec, Canada got hit with a significant solar flare that knocked out their power grid for nearly a day and damaged our ozone?
Things like this have been happening since the dawn of creation. I want to state for the folks who will hate this letter, I never said the earth “wasn’t warming,” and we are not helping but it is also a “natural” process. It’s done it for millions of years, over and over.
I would like to know how a socialist-communist running for president, “who has never had a real job,” and a New York bartender became so intelligent that they have all the cures for global warming, and in the meantime keep the wheels of this country turning smoothly.
Electricity “must” come from somewhere, and it doesn’t grow on trees. Think of this come November just what could happen.
ED. NOTE: The author cited on-line statistics in this letter that were not individually verified.
