To the Editor:
Senate President Stephen Sweeney is making bogus “bribery” charges against the N.J. public-sector unions.
Some unions have said they would withhold campaign contributions if he doesn’t keep his promise to call for a vote on the “pension” Constitution amendment.
He and other senators claim they have to resolve the transportation funding question. Sweeney and other senators don’t need the money. Just look at the Fund reports online in N.J. Elect Commission’s files. As of February 2015 he had a balance of $152,210. There is also a transfer and deposit of $394,484. One of his fellow Democrats even has a balance of $610,683.
They also need no contributions. What many people don’t understand is that campaign funds can be converted into “income” when an office holder decides to leave office or not run. This is what galls me that people like Sweeney are padding their individual golden retire parachutes while letting my pension die out.
Both Democrats and Republican office holders do this. If anyone wishes to contribute to any politician go to the Elect Commission’s site and check to see if they really need the money.
As for me, I won’t contribute.
